Design Still Matters in AI Products
Strong models do not save weak product experiences. Why craft, clarity, and interface design still matter in AI software.
It is easy to assume that better models will automatically create better products. They do not. Users still experience your product through interfaces, loading patterns, error states, and trust signals.
AI products have unique design problems: uncertainty, latency, partial answers, and the need to show provenance. A beautiful chat bubble means nothing if users cannot tell whether an answer came from a document, a guess, or a broken retrieval step.
I care about design because it shapes how people understand intelligent systems. Typography, spacing, motion, and hierarchy are not decoration. They are how you communicate what the system is doing and how much confidence to place in it.
The best AI products I have used feel calm and intentional. They do not try to impress with jargon. They make complex systems feel understandable. That is the bar worth aiming for.
